Windows 7 : Support for East Asian Languages (as in WinXP)?

For those who used to support Windows XP/2003 systems in other OS language editions than Asian languages, one very important feature when exchanging documents with different parties around the world was the support for « East Asian Languages ».

This option used to be located in Control Panal > Regional and Language Options > Languages :

SupportEastAsianLanguages

Now moving to Windows Vista / 7 / 8, this option can no longer found. In fact, the Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages tab no longer exists!

You’ll be happy to learn that this option is now natively supported in Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 2008 / 2008-R2 / 2012.

A good way to demonstrate the support for this is to :

  • find a web page with some East Asian characters in it
  • copy and paste a section of the asian characters found in notepad

The Asian characters should be displayed exactly as in the web page (and not replaced by a bunch of generic square box ASCII characters)
